Identity is the sense of ones self. This begins at around 12 to 20 years old.
Define self-esteem. Explain the effects that high and low self-esteem may have on health.
Self-esteem refers to how much you respect yourself and like yourself. If you have a high self esteem it has a positive effect on health. You are more likely to set goals, ask help when needed, and bounce back quickly from setbacks and disappointments.
If you have low self esteem it has a negative effect on health. They are more likely than their peers to use drugs, drop out of school, become pregnant, and suffer from eating disorders.

Self-actualization is the process by which people achieve their full potential. according to Maslow, before people can achieve actualization, their basic needs must be met. These needs are physical needs, the need to feel safe, the need to belong, and the need for esteem.

How do healthful and harmful coping strategies differ? Give an example of each.
Coping strategies are helpful when they improve a situation or allow a person to handle a situation in a better way. Coping strategies are harmful when they make a situation worse or a person is less able to handle a situation. A helpful way of coping is to confront the situation head-on. If possible, take action to improve the situation. Some harmful ways of coping are using drugs and alcohol or withdrawing form friends and family.

The four types of stressors are major life changes such as graduating high school or collage, catastrophes such as natural disasters, everyday problems such as work or driving, and environmental problems such as pollution or not catching any fish when you go on a fishing trip.
