What are the five components of high-quality CPR?
Chest compression fraction (CCF), chest compression rate, chest compression depth, chest recoil, ventilation.
What is PPE? What might you need to perform high-quality CPR?
PPE is Personal Protective Equipment, in order preform high quality CPR you need to have a chest compression rate of 100-120/min and needs to have a depth of atleast 2 inches in adults and a chest compression fraction of more than 80%
What are the 4 important considerations when giving chest compressions.
Chest recoil, compression rate, compression depth, compression to ventilation ratio
What is ROSC? What happens after ROSC is achieved?
ROSC is the resumption of sustained perfusing cardiac activity
ROSC is the resumption of sustained perfusing cardiac activity
1. Define the terms cardiac arrest & myocardial infarction. What is the difference? How many out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the US yearly?
Cardiac arrest is the stopping of the heart and myocardial infarction is the death of heart muscle tissue. More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year.
What are agonal gasps? If present, does that mean the patient is breathing on their own? Why/Why not?
Agonal gasp is gasping that people do when they are struggling to breathe because of cardiac arrest. It doesn't mean they are breathing fine; it means they are struggling to breathe.
What is the first link in the chain of survival for an in-hospital cardiac arrest?
the first chain is initial support- depends on an in-hospital system of appropriate surveillance, monitoring, and prevention with responsive primary provider teams.
What is multi-rescuer coordinated CPR? What are its basic components?
Multi-rescuer coordinated CPR is one performs chest compressions and a second persons gives breaths with a bag-mask device and a third person uses defibrillator
1. What are the 3 steps followed when locating the carotid pulse?
Locate the trachea- slide those fingers into the groove between the trachea and muscles at the side of the neck where you can feel the carotid pulse.
1. Why is it important to perform the head tilt-chin lift before giving rescue breaths?
It can help open the person's airways
1. Since we have already inhaled the air we are breathing out into the victim, how does it help them?
17% of the air is oxygen when you exhale.
1. What is the name of this piece of equipment? What are the steps in using it correctly in combination with a pocket mask?
CPR barrier
1. What is an AED? What is the 2 important rules to consider when using one?
automated external defibrillator (AED)
1. What special circumstances may require the rescuer to take additional steps?
Hairy chest, if the victim is in water, implanted defibrillators and pacemakers, transdermal medication patches, pregnant women, clothing and jewelery.
1. What is defibrillation? What does providing a "shock" do for the heart?
A defibrillator delivers a dose of electric current to the heart. this process depolarizes a large amount of the heart muscle, ending the dysrhythmia.
