The Crusades provoked the weakening of the feudal system as many of the hereditary lords died with their sons during the campaigns. With no one left to inherit, the lands were returned to the Crown. The Crusades saw massive casualties on both sides. Millions perished through the endless wars and pillaging, and many more were taken into slavery, including thousands of children. As a result of the Crusades, Europe saw tremendous intellectual growth, a strengthening of the merchant class through expansion in trade and the rise of new banking institutions. The specific technologies that were required to sail the open seas where Triangle sails, navigation tools such as astrolabe and quadrants to calculate latitude/longitude, compasses, maps and navigational charts, booked with detailed sailing instructions, and coastal landmarks. You were also required to have a crew that was experienced to sail the boat with weaponry such as cannons, guns, swords to ensure your safety. In addition of this you would need a way to contain food to avoid starvation etc.
