(Anorexia) Diagnostic Criteria
- refusal to maintain body weight at above a minimally normal weight for age and height
- intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat
- denial of the seriousness of current low body weight
- restrict intake
- disturbance in the way one's body weight and shape is experienced
(Anorexia) Clinical Presentation
- low weight
- amenorrhea (at least 3 consecutive cycles)
- cold extremities
- muscle weakness
- abnormal thyroid function tests
- hypokalemia
- possible elevated cholesterol
- anemic pancytopenia
- decreased bone density
- lanugo (fine downy hair)
- poor skin turgor
- yellowed skin (increased carotene levels)
- EKG changes

- hypotension
- bradycardia
- dysrhythmias
- QT prolongation
- cardiomyopathy
- refeeding syndrome
(Anorexia) Refeeding Syndrome
- circulatory collapse that occurs when a client's completely compromised cardiac system is overwhelmed by a replenished vascular system after normal fluid intake resumes
- can cause cardiac arrest
