- Their hearts are changed and they are born of him and have become his sons and his daughtersMosiah 13: 27-35Abinadi is speaking to the king and his priests: They need to keep the law of Moses for now, but that is not how salvation comes--without the atonement, the law would be utterly useless--Israel needed the strict law because they were slow to remember their God and the law was to help them constantly remember; they were also stiffnecked and quick to do iniquity--all these things were types of things to come--Israelites did not understand the law because of the hardness of their hearts; they did not understand that redemption came through Christ--Moses and all prophets have testified of Christ coming and resurrecting; how do you not understand?Mosiah 18: 8-11, 21-30The baptismal covenant scriptures: "called his people," bear each other's burdens, comfort each other, mourn with each other, stand as witness of God at all times, things, places; if this is your desire, why not be baptized; the covenant is to serve him and keep his commandments that God will pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon us; the people clapped w/ joy b/c this was the desire of their hearts--they should have no contention; hearts should be knit in unity and love; they should preach, keep sabbath, give thanks every day to God--priests labored for their own support--they worshipped once a week--the church members imparted w/ each other so that everyone was taken care of (both temporally and spiritually); "how beautiful are the eyes of them.. who came to the knowledge of their Redeemer"; they are blessed and shall sing his praise foreverMosiah 24: 13-16Amulon persecutes Alma and his brethren; he put guards over them; as Alma and his people cried out, the voice of the Lord told them to be of good comfort; they will be delivered; He will ease the burdens on their backs so that they cannot even feel them SO that they can stand as witnesses of God afterward that he does visit his people in their afflictions; Alma and his brethren's burdens were made light, they were strengthened; they submitted cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord; because of their faith, the Lord says he will deliver them out of bondage the next dayMosiah 29: 25-27They chose their chief judges by the voice of the people (democracy), but they were warned that if the majority instead of just the minority chooses iniquity, then the judgments of God will come and will bring great destruction (this is happening in modern-day America)Alma 11: 35-45The Zeezrom story (before he is changed): Amulek says we Christ can't save us in our sins--the wicked are as though there is no redemption made--Christ's atonement overcomes temporal death for all, and then we are restored and have to stand before God, having a "bright recollection" of all our guilt--at the judgment, all three members of the Godhead are there, and they are One Eternal GodAlma 12: 8-14, 24-35Now Zeezrom actually wants to know for the right reasons; he asks about the resurrection, how both the just and unjust are brought to stand before God to be judged; Alma says that it is given unto many to know the mysteries of God, but only a portion of this knowledge can be taught; if you harden your heart, you receive the lesser portion; if not, you can receive the greater portion until it is given to know the mysteries of God--if you have the lesser portion, you will be taken captive by the devil and know less and less and be led to down his destruction (the chains of hell)--if we have hardened our hearts against "the word" and it is not found in us, we shall be condemned; our words, works, and thoughts will condemn us--we would want to be hidden by mountains and rocks rather than be in God's presence if so--life is a probationary state, a time to meet God and prepare for the endless state--without the plan of redemption, there could be no resurrection--if Adam and Eve hadn't partaken of the tree of life, the plan would have been frustrated and they would be forever miserable (because they wouldn't get the preparatory state of mortality)--men were to die, so God sent angels to teach these things--God himself conversed w/ men--we were given commandments after being taught the plan of redemption so that we would not experience second death (everlasting spiritual death)--if we repent, we can claim mercyAlma 13: 1-13, 27-29Alma talks about the foreordained priests (anyone who is ordained to the priesthood was foreordained); he is referring to high priests (Melchizedek Priesthood); they were foreordained because of their exceeding faith and good works"; agency existed in the premortal world; they become high priests (they exercise priesthood after death),Alma 17: 1-3Alma met up with the sons of Mosiah on his way to Manti, while they were headed towards Zarahemla. Alma was very happy to see them, and was especially happy to hear that they were strong members of the church. They had searched the scriptures diligently, and become knowledgeable of the word of God. They were very diligent also in prayer and fasting, and because of this was blessed with the spirit of prophecy and revelation. "And when they taught, they taught with the power and authority of God." If you seek diligently to know the word of God, and participate in steadfast prayer and communication with God, you will be blessed with an authority and power that only can come through God.Alma 22: 1-23Aaron goes and teaches the father of Lamoni of the gospel, because he is curious about the power that Ammon possessed, and the love that he had shown his son. Lamoni's father is so faithful that he believe everything that Aaron teaches him. He not only believed him, but wanted and pled with Aaron to know more. Aaron speaks of many different truths and after Aaron did teach him, the king asked Aaron how to receive eternal life. Aaron taught him to bow down in humility and offer himself to God, the king immediately did this and was struck with the same power that had struck his son. His wife was angry and commanded them to be slain, but when she saw that the servants did not move to do it out of fear for their own lives, she called for them to gather the people to add to their numbers. Aaron rose the king to avoid confrontation, and when the king arose, he blessed the name of the Lord, and ministered unto his household. his faith was so great, that his entire household was converted to the Lord. Faith is very powerful.Alma 25: 14-17The Anti-Nephi-Lehis buried their weapons of war and walked in righteousness for the rest of their days. They kept the law of Moses, and looked forward to the coming of Christ. they understood that salvation did not come by the law of Moses, but rather it was there to strengthen their faith in Christ. They relied on the spirit of prophecy and did retain hope through faith. The sons of Mosiah rejoice in the success that they had had among the Lamanites and give thanks to the Lord for answering their prayers.
