Humans make use out of the resources on hand to adapt to specific requirement
Example: Why does citrus grow in FL and not in Maine?

They do not account for humans' ability to modify what the environment offers or to preferentially choose some resources over others
3. The Cultural
If humans are constructing their environment in particular ways, they are also constructing their consumptions patterns

What is minimalism?
few and finate consumer demands, and adequate means by which to achieve those demands
What is consumerism?
many and infinite demands, means to satisfy and never sufficient
Why are these two things important to consider when relating the cultural explanation to them?
In this way, the consumption patterns of the original affluent societies are constructed! Their wants are few, but they are abundantally fufilled
What about more symbollic forms of consumptions?
Even though the Trobriand Island have been well studied, 50 years after they well documented, a "new" form of consumption called women's wealth was discovered
Why doesn't Malin. never talk about it?
He doesnt talk about it, but pictures show that it was definitely happening.
Maybe because banana leaves are not traditionally consumable
What about the banana leaves?
They are a raw material that are exchanged for a high price
They act most as a form of currency, employed in the ceremonial redistribution of yams
