When Achilles refused, the defeat of the Greeks by the Trojans continued, so Hera stepped in to help. What did she do?
Hera knew Zeus was helping the Trojans to defeat the Greeks so she made herself beautiful and seduced Zeus. When Zeus saw her, he forgot that he had promised Thetis that he would help the Trojans. And the Greeks began to win.
What happened to Hector at this time? What about Zeus?
Ajax, the Greek, hurled Hector to the ground but Prince Aeneas came and rescued him. With Hector gone, the Greeks might have won if Zeus had not awakened.
Zeus was angry with Hera. Who did Hera blame for the Greeks success in the war?
Hera denied that she had anything to do with the Greeks doing better and said that Poseidon, the god of war, that was helping the Greeks. Zeus made Poseidon withdraw from the battle field.
Hector is back now fighting for the Trojans. Who gave Hector new power?
Apollo. And now the Trojans are close to winning the war.
With the Trojans close to winning the war, what does Achilles friend, Patroclus do?
He tries to get Achilles to fight again but when Achilles refuses, he takes Achilles armor and goes to fight.
What happens to Patroclus?
He is killed by Hector and Hector takes the armor that Patroclus was wearing and puts it on himself. Remember it is Achilles' armor.
Now that Patroclus has died, Achilles is so upset that he decided to fight again to kill Hector for killing Patroclus. Does his mother, Thetis, try to talk him out of it?
No, but she tells him to wait until morning and she will bring him armor made by the divine armorer, the god Hephaestus.

He tied Hector's feet to the back of his chariot and let his head hang on the ground. He rode around the walls of Troy dragging Hector's body behind the chariot.
