Why does America declare war?
1. Lusitania
at first, America was neutral and saw no need to get involved in the war, but war was urged by citizens due to the sinking of the Lusitania by a German U-Boat, and other actions taken by Germany - AR
The Luisitania was attacked by a German U Boat, where it exploded and sank, killing 128 Americans. Americans launch protests against unrestricted submarine warfare. jm

2. Sussex Pledge
French passenger ship the Sussex is sunk by German Uboats

America turns to Germany and demands that they stop unrestricted submarine warfare
Germany says "ok" (we will give warning prior to sinking a ship)
German follows the Sussex Pledge for almost a year - and then they resume unrestricted submarine warfare AGAIN

Germany reached out to Mexico asking them to join the war effort on their behalf (promised Mexico land)
Telegram intercepted by the British
Britain decoded it and realized what they were trying to do
Britain showed it to the US- this causes concern among people of the U.S because Mexico has a land border with the US
