Christine teaches organs, organ systems, organisms
basic unit of structure & function in living things
may serve a specific function in an organism ex. blood, nerve or bone cells.
made up of cells that are similar in structure & function that work together to perform a specific activity. Ex. blood, nervous, bone tissue
What are 4 basic tissues Humans have?
Connective tissue, epithelial tissue, muscle tissue, nerve tissue. Connor eats muscle and nerves
made up of tissues that work together to perform a specific activity. Examples heart, brain, skin etc.
group of 2 or more tissues that work together to perform a specific function for the organism. Ex. circulatory, nervous skeletal systems
How many organ systems are in the human body?
What are the 11 organ systems in the human body?
circulatory, digestive, endocrine, excretory (urinary), immune (lymphatic), integumentary, muscular, nervous, reproductive, respiratory, skeletal
What is the body's basic unit of life?
How many cells are in the human body?
more than 50 billion
What is a group of cells that have a similar shape and function?
What are many organs composed of?
more than one type of tissue
What is epithelial tissue? What is it's function?
skin tissue. forms outer layer of skin as well as lines surfaces of blood vessels and digestive tract
What is the purpose of connective tissue? What are 3 examples?
surrounds organs and connects tissues together.
blood, bone and cartilage are connective tissue
What is nerve tissue made up of and what is it's function?
It is made up of nerve cells that are able to send signals around the body.
What is muscle tissue made up of? What does muscle tissue attach to?
It is made up of cells that contract. Muscle tissue attaches to skeletal structures (bones), in the heart and intestines and stomach.
