Lineage was easy to identify with males, as they were given long names following the name of their father. However, Romans had difficulty identifying female lineage so they were named Domitia.
These daughters would be given tasks like spinning wool for their father's new toga. Women were not allowed to go into the same bath houses as men.
The daughters could not enter the Forum of Augustus, the Law Court, or the Senate House. They were only able to go to the porticos, gardens with art and sculptures.
Daughters were given men to be betrothed to, and had to wear a lengthy amount of jewelry to signify that they were engaged.
Finally, girls could not watch the matches in the Coliseum, unless they wanted to undergo the long process of being a vestal virgin.
Sons did not often live past fifteen years old, so it was special for them to reach this age. They would learn to read, write, run, swim and fight through their fathers and could become generals in the military fighting in Rome's eternal wars.
Their fathers would also find a girl to be the son's wife, but often these girls would end up being much younger than the son.
Fathers would also take their sons to the Forum Augustus where they would learn philosophies, lessons, and recall stories of great heroes of the past.
When Augustus had first become the ruler, he had a lot of reconstruction while also needing to sustain money for his army.
He unified all the aspects of society and made himself the key figure in all. Augustus named himself the pontifex maximus, or chief priest. This along with being imperator (emperor), Augustus transformed the government more with religion and laws to give himself more power.
Eventually, Augustus formed the cult of Roma et Augustus, which symbolized roman unity with the emperor.
Augustus utilized his symbol as essentially a god to further his power, which creates an issue for monotheists who only recognize one god.
