Q: are there similarities/differences across SES for language processing and vocabulary at 18-24 mos

Method:
- tested infants from 2 different sites, one with higher SES families, one with lower SES families
- looking while listening procedure
- also used a vocabulary checklist

Findings:
- SES was correlated with vocabulary size
- SES was correlated with accuracy and speed in language processing
- differences in vocabulary according to SES became more pronounced with age
- accuracy and speed of language processing were related to vocabulary size
- bilingual adults are slower at word-retrieval tasks/ experience more tip of the tongue phenomena
- bilinguals are no more likely to have language delays or disorders
- bilinguals may appear to know fewer words per language, but really, if you add up the vocab in both their languages, they stay at developmentally appropriate level
