discrimination
The act of making unjustified distinctions between people based on the groups, classes, or other categories to which they belong or are perceived to belong. Especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
stereotype
A generalized belief about a particular category of people. It is an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group.
"positive" stereotypes
A subjectively favorable belief about a social group. Take the “model minority” stereotype, for example. This stereotype portrays Asian Americans as the “chosen ones,” and it attributes their success in America to assumptions about their capabilities.
racism
The belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to inherited attributes and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another.
model minority (myth)
A minority demographic whose members are perceived as achieving a higher degree of socioeconomic success than the population average, thus serving as a reference group to outgroups.
