Bidgood poems are good for this one (and R.S. Thomas); hiraeth is a being homesick for something that didn't exist/you didn't experience or a nostalgia in the same sense
Derek Mahon's poems draw inspiration from abandoned, derelict settings. Point out examples of these settings in at least two poems and discuss their thematic significance.

Both Seamus Heaney and Derek Mahon use parallelisms of reference, meaning that a poem might simultaneously reference or allude to multiple places or events. Discuss at least one example of this in the work of both writers.

Discuss ways in which Gillian Clarke's poems draw upon objects from the distant past in order to create spaces and stories for women who have been marginalized from history. Please use examples from at least two poems.

Some twentieth-century poets in Wales reject English as an acceptable medium for Welsh experience, but other writers see this belief as elitist. Show examples where Anglophone Welsh poets push back against cultural nationalism and a perceived deference to the Welsh language.
Dylan Thomas; Ruth Bidgood
In "Reservoirs," R. S. Thomas writes about "the subconscious / Of a people," and this is one way of describing poetry's role in Wales, where the poet's social function is very pronounced. Choose two examples, one from the work of R. S. Thomas and one from the work of another Welsh poet and demonstrate how each poem transcends the personal to address wider political or social issues.

In "Early Frost," Leslie Norris writes, "Yet these are my / Ghosts, they do not need to ask / For housing when the early frost comes down." Using examples from at least two of his poems, discuss what it is that haunts Norris.
