MEDICATION?
dopamine, dobutamine (Dobutrex)
INOTROPIC VASOPRESSOR

ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION?
Continuous IV
INOTROPIC VASOPRESSOR

INDICATIONS?
Low BP.
Low urine output < 30 ml/hr.
Heart failure.
INOTROPIC VASOPRESSOR

ACTIONS?
Dopamine: 1 - 4 mcg/kg/min increases renal vasodilation.
5 - 10 mcg/kg/min increases CO & BP.
10 - 20 mcg/kg/min primarily increases BP.
Dobutamin: Increases CO, decreases SVR - may not increase BP.
INOTROPIC VASOPRESSOR

SIDE EFFECTS?
Dopamine infiltration causes tissue necrosis - treat with phentolamine (Regitine).
INOTROPIC VASOPRESSOR

NURSING IMPLICATIONS?
Infuse via IV pump through CVL.
Avoid discontinuing abruptly.
Monitor BP closely (frequently titrated by RN) and I & O hourly.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES?
OUtput > 30 mL/hr.
Increased BP.
INOTROPIC VASOPRESSOR

PATIENT TEACHING?
Notify RN of chest pain, dyspnea, numbness tingling or pain at infusion site.
