Fabric profiles. Collect a variety of fabric swatches. Mount each on an index card. On the back of the card, write the fabric's name, fibers, and type of construction. Use the cards for a classroom game of "Name that Fabric" before adding them to a class bulletin board.
Home decorating project. Visit a fabric store and select a pattern for a home furnishings project. Note the recommended fabrics listed on the pattern envelope. Look around the store for fabrics suitable for home decorating. What types of fibers, fabrics, and finishes are most common? How do they differ from fabrics used for garments?
