Grouping tech and other capabilities in competency centers based on IT functions, IT processes and expertise related to activities such as app dev and security mgmt.
o Think of IT as silo functions in a business.
Business Unit Aligned
focused on lines of business, products, and/or geographic structure. Grouping together the people whose work is dedicated wholly/mostly to specific org units in the enterprise as a whole and/or whose work related to specific geo locations of enterprise activities, sometimes supported by a centralized IT org for those things that are "shared."
o When you have IT within each part of the business, without any shared IT provider within the enterprise, it is known as decentralized or multilocal IT model.
o When there are some distributed and some centralized IT providers, it is known as federated model or hybrid model.
o Focuses on how the thing being studied interacts with the other constituents of the system (a set of elements that interact to produce behavior) of which it is a part.
o Complex issues are better for systems thinking, because they are more sensitive to how all the different parts interact, rather than how the individual parts function alone.
