4mL x BSA (% of body burned) x kg

fluid resuscitation needed in 24hrs after burn

half of total fluid requirement in first 8 hrs
half of remaining total fluid requirement over 16hrs

superficial thickness burn

damage to epidermis; pink/red with NO blister
heals in 3-6 days

superficial partial-thickness burn

damage into dermis; pink/red WITH blisters & edema
heals in 10-21 days

deep partial-thickness burn

deeper into the dermis, red skin with white dry areas + NO blisters due to dead tissue
heals in 3-6 weeks

full-thickness burn

destruction of epidermis & dermis; waxy white, deep red, brown or black dry + hard skin
healing takes weeks-months

deep full-thickness burn

damage to muscle/bone/tendons, skin is black & hard
healing takes months
need skin grafting
