Expansion diffusion
Occurs when and idea or trait or innovation spreads from one place to another and increases in the number of people.
Hierarchical diffusion
The spread of an idea through an established structure usually from people/places of power to people/places with less power.(Leapfrogging; hit or miss) Example: iPhones
Contagious diffusion
Spread rapidly of an idea/trait/concept through a group of people or an area EQUALLY without regard to social class, economic or position of power.(Ex: disease, religion, silly bands)
Stimulus diffusion
The spread of an underlying principle even though the main idea itself changes.(Ex: drive through windows, McDondalds)
Relocation diffusion
Occurs when the people migrate and take their cultural attributes with them. Does not grow in numbers.
Migrant diffusion
When innovation originates and enjoys strong, but brief, adoption in a place. The innovation may travel long distances(& be thriving), but could be extinct back at the hearth.
