-how and when to apply eye patch and eye shield (eye patched at night and protected by sunglasses when outside), teach not to scratch, rub, touch, or squeeze affected side.
-How to prevent constipation and straining and about activity limitations.
-Symptoms to report to DOC: eye pain or pressure, redness or cloudiness, drainage, decreased vision, floaters or flashes of light, or halos around bright objects, and N&V.
-4-6 weeks in till best vision achieved.
avoid straining to have a BM, don't drink through straw for 2-3 weeks, avoid ear travel, no ear plugs, avoid showers, shampooing, and wetting head in till doc orders, don't remove inner ear dressing in till told so, avoid blowing nose, if you need to cough or sneeze keep mouth open, may need to take an antiemetic/antihistamine drug for up to 1 month after surgery, notify doc if you develop a fever, bleeding, increased, drainage, increased dizziness, or decreased hearing. Dizziness, headache, blurred vision, seizures, hypotension, hypertension, edema, HF, thrombophlebitis, tachycardia, chest pain, uriticaria, skin necrosis with infiltration, nausea, anorexia, dry mouth, thirst, diuresis, urine retention, fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
