water can be deadly and human life is most commonly lsot through flooding. human life can be overtaken by sin. god wants to save a remnant of his people and his creation so that eventually all could be saved.

they were led from slavery to freedom, from certain death to new life, by passing though the waters of the red sea. the waters of the baptism are the waters that part for us, so that we can be freed from sin and continue our journey to the promised land of eternal life. its our safe passage through the waters of death is an image of the greedom that is ours through baptism.

waht are the six effects of baptism?
personal sin - sins we choose to commit through an act of our own free will
original sin - brokeness which we inherit as part of our huan nature that damaged our origins; harmony and holiness experienced with god
- original sin is the denial of our need for god and our substitution of ourselces as god. however an inckination and weekness towards sin (concupiscence) still remains
- sanctifying grace

The sin of the first human beings, who disobeyed God's command by choosing to follow their own will and thus lost their original holiness and became subject to death. It's the fallen state of human nature that affects every person born into the world

a habitual grace that heals our wounded soul and remains within us (until moral sin) making us beloved children of God

God's desires union with all persons and for those infants who die without baptism, we trust in the love and mercy of our just God
