Emily Stevenson-- Blinds and Shades
Terms in this set (25)
A window shade made from fabric shirred in soft draping scallops that run the length of the shade. These shades operate in a way similar to roman shades.
Fabric shades with deep inverted pleats that fall into airy, rounded poufs at the bottom.
Optional polyester or fabric backing available on selected shades that ensures 100% light blockage and privacy
Blind (Hardwood Window Treatment)
A window covering using horizontal or vertical slats. These can be made of plastic, metal (aluminum), wood, fabric, and synthetic materials. Blinds can be adjusted or rotated to protect homes and windows from sunlight, harsh weather, theft and vision.
These are shades that can be heightened vertically. They are stacked from the bottom and can be adjusted up the height of the window
A piece of tape with rings attached that allows cable to pass through rings and draw up the shade. Most commonly used with roman shades
Similar in construction to balloon shades; cloud shades are gathered at the top and stitched into billowing puffs at the bottom.
Duette, Cellular Shade
These shades come in sheer, semi-sheer, semi-opaque and opaque fabrics to give a choice in light control. Distinguished by a crisp, clean style, the honeycomb construction of these soft, yet durable Duette shades—available in single, double and triple honeycombs—make them highly energy efficient. These shades offer greater energy efficiency, greater sound absorption and a radiant color palette
Method of mounting that installs the blind or shade within the framing and casing of the window
The hardware at the top of the blind that holds the mechanisms such as tracks and controls which operate the blind.
The cord that raises and lowers the shade
: Fixed slats that can pivot either vertically or horizontally in a shutter or blind. Used in horizontal or vertical blinds
: Horizontal blinds with 2" slats
Horizontal blinds with 1" slats
Shade overlaps window opening when mounted on window frame
A shade that resembles the action of an accordion. These shades are factory made and require very little stacking space. These can be transparent, translucent, or opaque. A metallic coating can be applied to reduce static and dust attraction.
The insulating effect of a material; a material's resistance to the flow of heat. The larger the R-value, the greater the resistance the better the insulating value
A simple cylinder containing a spring or clutch mechanism, around which the shade coils when raised up by means of a pull cord or continuous cord loop.
Drawn up from the bottom by means of cords and rings, these shades create horizontal folds when raised. A roman shade panel is flat when lowered and covers the window glass completely.
Shade (Soft Window Treatment)
A window treatment intended to control light by filtering or blocking it completely. Can be made of fabric or other soft materials. Curtains, etc.
Soft fabric vanes suspended between two sheer fabric facings and offer a wide selection of elegant fabrics and optional features. The suspended vanes tilt with precision, giving total light control and privacy. When fully raised, window shadings completely disappear into the fabric-covered headrail for an unobstructed view
This is the area were the blind 'stacks' when drawn open. Horizontal blinds stack at the top of the window at the head rail. Verticals may stack to the right, left, or to both as a split stack. It may also refer to the amount of width the blind requires to stack when drawn open.
The horizontal components of blinds
Vertical blinds hang from a track and adjust only in the vertical direction. They can be pulled to the side to expose the window. They are available in several materials (primarily plastic) widths, and colors
The most traditional material of slates; made of wooded louvers in 1", 2" or 3" slats
