Exposition
The beginning of a story. Introduces characters, conflict and setting.
Rising Action
An event (or events) that build suspense and lead readers to the climax of a story.
Climax
The most suspenseful part of the plot/story.
Falling Action
An event or events that relieve the suspense/tension of the climax and guide readers towards the resolution.
Resolution
The end to the plot. Conflicts are resolved in this portion, and there is closure for the reader.
Setting
The time and place in which the events of a story occur.
Plot
The sequence of events in a story.
Characters
The people, animals or beings within a story.
Theme
The main idea or message of a story.
Conflict
The struggle of opposing forces in the plot.
