deus meus, recorder in grātiārum āctiōne tibi et cōnfitear misericordiās tuās super mē.
My God, let me recount in the giving of thanks to you and confess your compassions over me.
perfundantur ossa mea dīlēctiōne tuāet dīcant: 'domine, quis similis tibi?' dīrūpistī vincula mea: sacrificem tibi sacrificium laudis.
Let my bones be poured out with delight in you and say: Lord, who is similar to you? You broke apart my chains: may I make a sacrifice to you the sacrifice of praise.
quōmodo dīrūpistī ea nārrābō, et dīcent omnēs quī adōrant tē, cum audiunt haec, 'benedictus dominus in caelō et in terrā; magnum et mīrābile nōmen eius.'
I will tell how you disrupted those (chains), and all who adore you, will say when they hear these things, "Blessed is the Lord in the sky and on the Earth; great and amazing is his name."
inhaeserant praecordiīs meīs verba tua, et undique circumvāllābar abs tē.
Your words had clung to my heart, and I was being walled in from everywhere by you.
dē vītā tuā aeternā certus eram, quamvīs eam in aenigmate
et quasi per speculum vīderam; dubitātiō tamen omnis dē incorruptibilī substantiā, quod ab illā esset omnis substantia, ablāta mihi erat, nec certior dē tē sed stabilior in tē esse cupiēbam.
I was certain of your eternal life, although I had saw it in the riddle and as if through a mirror; yet every doubt about incorruptible substance had been taken from me, that all substance was from that, I was wishing not to be certain of you but to be established in you.
dē meā vērō temporālī vītā nūtābant omnia et mundandum erat cor ā fermentō veterī.
Of my temporal life truly, all was hesitating and the heart was still needing to be cleansed from old corruption.
et placēbat via ipse salvātor, et īre per eius angustiās adhūc pigēbat.
And the way, the savior himself, was pleasing and yet it was disgusting to go through the same narrow pass.
et immīsistī in mentem meam vīsumque
est bonum in cōnspectū meō pergere ad Simpliciānum, quī mihi bonus appārēbat servus tuus et lūcēbat in eō grātia tua.
And you had sent into my mind and it seemed good in my sight to proceed to Simplicianus, who was appearing to me a good servant of you and your grace was shining in him.
audīeram etiam quod ā iuventūte suā dēvōtissimē tibi vīveret; iam vērō tunc senuerat et longā aetāte in tam bonō studiō sectandae vītae tuae multa expertus, multa ēdoctus mihi vidēbātur: et vērē sīc erat.
