ut sēcrētius redderet, sīcut nōnnūllīs quī verēcundiā trepidātūrī vidēbantur offerrī mōs erat;
Finally as it came to the hour of professing faith, which is accustomed to be delivered by certain words and concepts retained in memory from the lofty place, in the sight of faithful people, at Rome and Simplicianus, was saying it was offing offered to Victorinus by the elders that in secret give forth a profession, as was the custom to be offered to some who by shyness, were seeming to be agitated;
illum autem māluisse salūtem suam in cōnspectū sānctae multitūdinis profitērī.
that he, however, had preferred to profess his own salvation in view of the multitude.
nōn enim erat salūs quam docēbat in rhētoricā, et tamen eam pūblicē professus erat.
For it was not salvation that he was teaching in rhetoric, and yet he had professed it publicly.
quantō minus ergō verērī dēbuit mānsuētum gregem tuum prōnūntiāns verbum tuum, quī nōn verēbātur in verbīs suīs turbās īnsānōrum?
How much less therefore, he ought to fear of your tamed flock in proclaiming your word, who had not been afraid of the mad crowd (speaking) in his own words?
itaque ubi ascendit ut redderet, omnēs sibimet invicem, quisque ut eum nōverat, īnstrepuērunt nōmen eius strepitū grātulātiōnis (quis autem ibi nōn eum nōverat?)
And so when he ascended so that he may speak all in turn to themselves as each one recognized him, they blurt out the name of him with a loud outburst of congratulations, (who there even so did not know him?)
et sonuit pressō sonitū per ōra cūnctōrum conlaetantium, 'Victorīnus, Victorīnus.'
and sounded with a suppressed sound through the mouths of rejoicing together, 'Victorinus, Victorinus.'
cito sonuērunt exultātiōne, quia vidēbant eum, et cito siluērunt intentiōne, ut audīrent eum. prōnūntiāvit ille fidem vērācem praeclārā fīdūciā, et volēbant eum omnēs rapere intrō in cor suum. et rapiēbant amandō et gaudendō: hae rapientium manūs erant.
Quickly they sounded with joy, because they were seeing him, and quickly they had been silent with intention, so that they might hear him. He proclaimed that truthful faith with bright confidence, and all were wishing to take him into their hearts. And they were taken by loving and by rejoicing: the hands of these men were taken.
