Weathering
The breaking down of rocks from wind, water, plants, or animals.
Erosion
The movement or transportation of Earth's weathered material by wind, water, ice, or gravity.
Deposition
The settling of sediments when the wind, water, and ice slow down or stop moving.
Compaction
Layers of sediment are squeezed together and any water is forced out.
Cementation
At the time of compaction, particles are beginning to stick together - they are cemented together.
Sedimentary Rock
Rocks formed through the processes of WEDCC.
Metamorphic Rock
Rock formed through the processes of heat and pressure.
Igneous Rock
Rock formed through the processes of melting and cooling.
Intrusive Rock
Rock formed inside the Earth through the cooling of magma. ex: granite
Extrusive Rock
Rock formed on the Earth's surface through the cooling of lava. ex: basalt
