Battle of Bull Run: The goal was to make quick work of the bulk of the Confederate army, open the way to Richmond, the Confederate capital, and end the war. (Confederate)

Battle of Shiloh: What made Shiloh important was how many men each side lost Union over 13,000 Confederates over 10,000. Shiloh brought Sherman and Grant to the realization that the confederates were a force to be reckoned with. Sherman and Grant were too confident and therefore were caught off guard by Johnston who had an army of 40,000 in the woods at Corinth. (Union)

Battle of Antietam: Gave the Union enough of what looked like a victory for Lincoln to issue the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. Made the war a revolutionary war. There were over 23,000 causalities

Battle of Atlanta: The war made an impact on the democrats because it proved to them that the war was not a failrure. Sherman's army pushed Johnston out of Atlanta and Johnston's army burned everything on their way out.
Advantages of the Union:
They had industry: shoes, weapons, railroads, Money $$, and organized gov't production.
They had the population to last through the war.
Last they had Lincoln who had federal power and executive privileges
Advantages of the Confederates:
They had the Cause, they were organized and able to use weapons and guns.
They had land and strategy; they had gorilla warfare, they knew the land and they had morale(fighting for their family)
They had Jefferson David and Robert E. Lee
