What is a nonvascular plant?
They do not have tubes to carry food and water. They absorb water from their surroundings. They do not grow very tall. No roots- but have a "root-like" structure.

They have tissue that carry water and food. They group upright. They have true roots.
What are some examples of vascular plants?
trees, flowers, cacti, fruit trees, grass
What is xylem?
Carries water and nutrients from the roots. (in vascular plants)
What is phloem?
Carries food from leaves to all other plant cells.
What are the TYPES of vascular plants?
gymnosperms and angiosperms
What is a gymnosperm?
A type of vascular plant with a "naked seed." Male and female cones. The male cone has pollen that lands on the female and a seed is produced. They are carried by the wind to start a new plant.
What is an angiosperm?
A type of vascular plant with a seed protected by a fruit. Some pollinate by themselves, and some need birds / bees / wind.
What is classification?
the process of grouping things based on their similarities

an animal without a backbone
What is a kingdom?
The group at the "top." There are 6 kingdoms. The two most well know are plant and animal.
What does species mean?
A group of living organisms that can reproduce.
What is a vertebrate?
An animal with a backbone.

What are two living things that are closely related?
wolf and dog, human and monkey, cat and tiger
What is the main difference between members of the plant kingdom and members of the animal kingdom?
Plants have chlorophyll and cell walls, and they don't move.
What are some differences between snakes and earthworms?
• Snakes are a vertebrate group while worms are invertebrates. Therefore, snakes have stronger bodies compared to worms.
• Snakes have scales but not the worms.
• Snakes could be venomous but not the worms.
Why are plants in their own kingdom?
They make their own food.
Which animal is a vertebrate- fish or cuttlefish?
The fish is a vertebrate because it has a backbone. The cuddlefish is a mollusk.
