Treatment planning

The stages of treatment
Immediate concerns
evaluate risk factors, assess suicidality based on intent and plan. Child or elder abuse violence toward others including self destructive or self injurious behaviors. Determine if it is a crisis. Stabilize crisis- make judgement regarding legal obligations
Early Stages of Treatment
ask questions, take history, assess coping skills. gather info based on or level of emotional distress.
Determine diagnosis--assess level of functioning
Construct treatment plan- define needs and services
divide goals in to parts.
Middle stage or treatment
Goal to work toward the goals you have established with the client. Reduce core symptoms, identify and strengthen clients abilities to cope,decrease isolation, increase self esteem, address family factors as needed. Help client understand resistance and barriers to change
Final Stage
review original problem, prepare client to cope effectively with future problems, support client to to adjust to change, connect client to additional resources
Termination Phase
Review progress, schedule additional sessions after initial termination, ensure support system is in place for family, identify and address feelings about termination, address issues such as abandonment
