The Florida Amber Alert Plan
Established August 30, 2000 and created in memory of Amber Hagerman, a 9 year old girl who was abducted and murdered in 1996. It broadcasts child abductions to the general public.
Criteria for Activation:
- Child must be under 18 years of age.
-There must be clear indication of abduction.
-Law enforcement agency must conclude that the child's life is in danger.
-There must be a detailed description of the child and/or abductor/vehicle to broadcast to the public (a photo should be provided asap, when available.)
-The activation must be recommended by the local law enforcement agency of jurisdiction.
The Florida Silver Alert Plan
Made effective by an Effective Order signed by Gov. Charlie Crist on October 8, 2008. Standardized system to aid local law enforcement in the rescue of an elderly person with a cognitive impairment who is lost or missing.
Criteria for Activation:
-60 years of age or older.
-LEO conclude disappearance poses a credible threat to the person's welfare and safety.
-A description of the vehicle is available and has been verified by local law enforcement.
-Local Law enforcement agency has entered the missing person into the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) and has issued a statewide BOLO (Be on the Look Out) to other law enforcement/911 centers.
The Florida LEO Alert Plan
May 5, 2008, Gov. Charlie Crist signed an Executive Order establishing the Florida Law Enforcement Alert Plan. Broadcast important information about the offender/offenders who seriously injured or killed a law enforcement officer.
Criteria for Activation:
-A Law Enforcement Officer must have been seriously injured or killed by an offender(s).
-The investigating law enforcement agency must determine that the offender poses a serous risk to the public.
-A detailed description of the offender's vehicle, including a vehicle tag, must be available for broadcast.
-Local law enforcement must recommend issuing the alert.
