beginning of feudalism
In those early times people where working very hard to survive and at the same time to protcet each other form the barbarians who destroyed Rome. So they invented Feudalism.
the franks had developed a new type of warfare where people where heavily armored and they attacked on horses. The Frankish kingdom is now known as France
Clovis The Frankish emperor
In 481 an emperor of 15 years old called Clovis started ruling over the frankish kingdom. five years later he defeated the last roman army in Gaul. He ruled for 30 years an during these 30 years he spread dhis kingdom by conquering other kingdoms. His wife was a christian so he made the Franks turn to christianity.
Charlemagne The Frankish Emperor
He ruled for 40 years and made a big kingdom. He ruled with the pope Leo III. Leo made him Holly roman emperor for helping him. He awarded good soldiers with land and titles. But after his death his kingdom fell very fast by the hands of not good emperors.
Muslism, Vikings, and the Magyars
In the 9th and 10th centuries Europe was attacked by the muslims the vikings and the Magyars. The muslims where the followers of Islam advanced from the middle east and from north africa to what now is spain, the magyars a central asian people attacked from the east, and the Vikings attacked from the North.
Need of defence
To defend themselves the early people made feudalism since it provided the people protections and seafty by establishing a stable social order.
How did Feudalism work
Feudalism was a system which gave the power to someone usually a King or Queen. Under this system people where bound to one another. A big deal of the land was also owned by the church. The king gave fiefs, a piece of land, to his most important lords and made them his vassals. In return they supplied him with soldiers in time of war.
Paesants, and serfs
Usually Lords lived in Manors. This Manors where always far away from the towns so the paesants had to work really hard and to supply the Manor of the thingss needed. Serfs where paesants who where tied to the land in which they worked don. They couldn't leave the King's land so they had to work for him.
Moarchs's power varied greatly some didn't even have enough wealth to sustain the army too. Most of them thought that it had been God's decision to make them Monarchs (aka kings).
William the Normand Duke
He thought that he was going to be crowned king but his brother took the title. In 1066 William and his army invaded England. William defeated Harold in the battle of Hastings and took the power. After having conquered england he was called William the conquerer
