-good at maintaining balanced forces (introduced forces slowly)
-he refused for Afghanistan to be sucked into WWII
-was overthrown in 1973 "coup d'etat"

-lead the overthrow of his cousin Shah Mohammed
-"did away with monarchy and brought in democracy"
-his ruling ended when the Saur Revolution took place
