Deity that was a form of Baal worshiped by the Philistines at Ekron. Ahaziah, who was guilty of continuing both the Canaanite fertility religion of Ahab and the idolatrous calf worship of Jeroboam I, feared that an injury he received in a fall might be fatal (2 Kings 1) and thus sent messengers to Philistia to ask Baal-Zebub about his health—resulting in God's interception of the messengers and Elijah's warning.

Book of the Law
During the reign of young king Josiah, this term probably referred to all or part of Deuteronomy, which had been deposited in the temple at Solomon's dedication (1 Kings 8:1-4; Deut. 31:26). This temple copy had been neglected during the reigns of Manasseh and Amon, and the discovery of the law book by Josiah's high priest in the temple of the Lord (2 Kings 22:8-10) greatly affected the young king.
