Excess reactant
a reaction that remains after a chemical reaction occurs
Limiting reactant
a reagent that runs out first, limits how far the reaction can go, causes the reaction to stop
Mole Ratio
In a balanced equation, the ratio between the # of moles in any 2 substances
a mathematical calculation dealing with the masses of reactants and products involved in a chemical equation
Atomic mass unit (amu)
the # which indicates the combined # of protons and neutrons - 1 amu = 1.66*10 ^-24 g

expresses info about proportions of a chemical compound using a single line

weight measured by the sum of the atomic weights of atoms
Percent Composition
% of total mass of the compound due to the components

Pure Substance
matter that is uniformly distributed and consists of only 1 particle
