Words that are used to name a person, place, thing, animal, or idea.

Names of specific people, places or things and always start with a capital letter.

Words that take the place of nouns. Examples include: I, you, me, he, she, it, we, they, him, her.

Words that usually show action.

Helps another verb to make sense. There are 23... am, is, are, was and were, being, been and be, have, has, had, do, does, did, shall, should, will and would, there are 5 more may, might, must, can, could!

Connects the subject of a sentence to the predicate of a sentence and does not show action. Examples include: am, is, are, was and were, being, been and be, have, has, had.

Words that describe nouns. Examples include: beautiful, smart, yellow, seven.

Words that describe a verb, adjective, or another adverb. They often end with l y. This part of speech answers the questions - How? When? Where?
