Perimeter
The distance around a figure.
Area
The amount of space inside a 2-dimensional figure. The number of square units inside a figure.
Volume
The amount of space inside a 3-dimensional figure. The number of cubic units inside an object.
Face
The flat surfaces that form the outside of a 3-dimensional figure.
Edge
The line segments that are formed by the intersection of two faces.
Vertex
A point where three or more edges of a 3-dimensional figure meet. The plural form of vertex is vertices.
Prism
A 3-dimensional figure with two congruent and parallel faces called the bases. All faces are polygons.
Cylinder
A 3-dimensional figure with two congruent, parallel, circular bases.
Pyramid
A 3-dimensional figure with common vertex and a polygon as a base; all other faces are triangles.
Cone
A 3-dimensional figure with a common vertex and a circular base.
Sphere
A 3-dimensional figure in which all points are the same distance from the center.
