Ding Chuan Tang (Ding Chuan
• 1. For asthma, wheezing or coughing due to wind-cold invading the exterior with phlegm-heat in the interior.
• 2. In the case of wind-cold without phlegm-heat, use Minor Bluegreen Dragon formula.
• 3. Do not use for chronic asthma with Qi def & weak pulse
4. Contains Ma Huang, use with caution for hypertension or insomnia p't .
Bai He Gu Jin Tang (Lily Preserve Metal Formula)
• 1. For Internal dryness of Lu due to Ki, Lu yin def.
• 2. Cough with blood streaked sputum, wheezing, dry/sore throat, 5 center hot sensation
• 3. Usually used for chronic condition, do not use for dampness or excessive phlegm
Xiao Qing Long Tang (Minor Bluegreen Dragon Formula)
• 1. For exterior wind-cold with congested cold fluid in lung.
• 2.(+SuZi,JieGeng;-XiXin)
• 3. Do not use for heat conditions (use Yin Qiao or Zhong Gan Ling instead) or yin deficiency.
• 4. Contains Ma Huang, use with caution for hypertension or insomnia p't .
Yu Ping Feng San (Jade Windscreen Formula)
• 1. Used for def. protective (defensive) Qi , for p't with weak immune system.
• 2. Can be used for acute attacks of wind- cold in p't who is too weak to take dispersing formulas.
• 3. Used for prevention before cold season (1-5 Mon ahead), also used for stops sweating
Xing Su San (Apricot Seed and Perilla Formula)
• 1. For late fall
• 2. For exterior cool-dryness & lung failed to disperse and descend Qi.
• 3. Aversion to cold, no sweat, minor headache, cough with thin white phlegm, nasal congestion and dry throat.
• 4.In modern time can be used for exterior wind-cold (milder).
• 5.Warm-dryness use Sang Xin Tang (early fall)
Sang Ju Yin (Morus and Chrysanthemum Combination)
• 1. Release exterior wind-heat with coughing.
• 2. Wind-heat at Wei level, slight fever, thirst, cough is dominant.
Er Chen Tang (Citrus & Pinella Combination)
• 1. Dampness & cold phlegm due to Sp def.
• 2. Coughing with copious white sputum, stifling sensation in the chest, palpitation, dizziness
• 3. Hangover
Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang (Ma-huang and Apricot Combination)
• 1. Lung heat with or without exterior syndrome.
• 2. Fever with or without sweating, thirst, wheezing, coughing, labored breathing.
• 3. Contraindicated for wheezing due to Lu cold/cold phlegm or any deficiency
Mai Men Dong Tang (Ophiopogon Combination)
• 1.Lu & St yin def with def heat & Qi rebellious.
• 2. Wheezing due to Qi rebellous, cough without blood, short of breath, dry mouth.
• 3. Lung atrophy
Qing Fei Tang (Platycodon and Fritillaria Combination)
• 1. Clears and moistens Lu, dissolves phlegm and arrest cough.
• 2. Chronic respiratory disease due to residual heat causing chronic inflammation, phlegm, severe chronic cough & gives rise to a sore, itching throat, hoarseness, the phlegm is abundant & sticky (can be either yellow or white)
Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang (Blood Palace Formula)
• 1. for blood stasis in the upper part of the body.
• 2. Headache, pain in the chest
• 3. Do not use during pregnancy, heavy menstrual bleeding or any active hemorrhagic disorder.
San Qi Pian (San Qi Tablets)
• 1. Contain the single ingredient notoginseng (pseudoginseng, San Qi) which is effective in controlling bleeding, transforming blood stasis & dispersing clots, deposits in the blood vessel.
• 2. Also good for pain & swelling from traumatic injury.
Guan Xin Shu (Salvia and
Cnidium Combination)
• 1. Dan Shen, Chi Shao, Chuan Xiong, Hong Hua, Jiang Xiang
• 2. This formula is from clinical experience
• 3. Activate blood, promote free flow of Qi, dispels blood stagnation, alleviate pain.
• 4. For chest pain radiates to the upper back, focal distension in the chest.
• 5. Used in coronary Ht disease, angina pectoris, cerebral thrombosis or embolism
Gua Lou Zhi Shi Tang
(Trichosanthes and Chih-Shih
• 1. Clears heat, dissolves phlegm,
regulates Qi & relieve chest distension
• 2. For chest pain, smoker's cough, intercostal neuralgia, hypertension marked by viscid phlegm, difficulty in breathing.
• 3. Good for all kind of phlegm (wind, dryness, dampness, heat, Qi) except cold-phlegm.
• 4.Is especially useful for treating dry-phlegm
Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin (Gastrodia & Uncaria Formula)
• 1. Internal wind due to Liv yang hyperactive (root is Liv yin deficiency)
• 2. Used to clear heat, extinguish wind & calm the Liv.
• 3. Add Ze Xie to aid clearing heat & downward action of this formula.
• 4. For twitching, spasms, dizziness, headache, hypertension, tinnitus, vertigo
• 5.Use with caution during pregnancy
Long Dan Xie Gan Tang (Gentiana Drain Fire Formula)
• 1. Excess heat heat in the Liv/GB or Damp-heat in the lower-jiao, Liv/GB

Substituted Dan Zhu Ye for Mu Tong

Kang Ning Wan (Ease digestion Formula)

• 2. Can use for acute or chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, indigestion, decreased ability to taste, decreased appetite, distension in the abdomen, borborygmus and diarrhea after eating.
Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang (pinellia Combination)
• 1. Heat & cold complex in the middle-jiao (St-Intestine).
• 2. For upper abdominal distention, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, borborygmus. (with a yellow coating)
• 3. Modern use for gastritis, enteritis, excessive gastric acid, gastric or duodenal ulcer, motion sickness.
Wen Dan Tang (Bamboo and
Hoelen Combination)
• 1. Disharmony of GB & ST with phlegm- heat (Ht may also be involved).
• 2. For obstruction beneath the heart, vomiting, excessive phlegm, dizziness, palpitations, susceptibility to fright and insomnia. Gastroentero-dysfunction accompanied by insomnia, gastroptosis, and gastroatonia, palpitation and neurotic hypersensitivity.
Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi Tang (Saussurea and Cardamon Combination)
• 1. Sp & St Qi deficiency with phlegm and Qi stagnation.
• 2. For gastrointestinal weakness accompanied by phlegm and food stagnancy. Marked by stomach water stagnation, poor digestion, poor appetite, distension beneath the heart, Qi stagnation, anxiety, stomachache, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
• 3. Chronic gastroenteritis, gastroptosis, gastroatonia, gastric ulcer, lack of appetite appearing after an illness, gastric cancer, weak constitution in the elderly or in CVA patients.
Xiang Sha Yang Wei Tang (Cypeus and Cluster Combination)
• 1. Dampness and food stagnation in middle-jiao with a weak SP & St.
• 2. For anorexia, gastrointestinal weakness, chronic gastroenteritis, gastroatonia, anoxia occurring after an illness, poor development in children.
