Ratio
A comparison of two or more quantities; may be written as 3:4 or as a fraction.
Proportion
An equation stating that two ratios are equivalent.
Unit Rate
A ratio that compares quantities of two different types and the quantity of the second number is "1"; a rate that has a denominator of "1" unit.
Constant of Proportionality
The constant value of the ratio of two proportional quantities "x" and "y"; usually written y=kx, where "k" is the constant value.
Sales Tax
A tax on sales or on the receipt from sales.
Proportional
A part to whole comparison; the equality of two ratios, written as an equation.
Discount
To reduce in price, quantity or value.
Scale Factor
A ratio between two sets of measurements; a ratio expressing the amount of magnification.
