name of a person, place, thing, or idea
Compound Nouns
one noun made by joining two or more words
Singular Nouns
name one person, place, thing, or idea
Plural Nouns
name more than one person, place, thing, or idea
Possesive Nouns
show ownership or possession
Common Nouns
not capitalized, names any one of a group of people, place, thing, or idea, can be single or compound nouns
Proper Nouns
ALWAYS capitalized, names a specific person, place, thing, or idea, can be single or compound nouns
Pronouns
a word that takes the place of a noun or a group of words acting as a noun
Antecedents of Pronouns
the noun a pronoun refers to
Personal Pronouns
singular or plural, are broken down by whom is speaking
- 1st Person
refers to the speaking
- 2nd Person
refers to the person spoken to
- 3rd Person
refers to the person spoken about
Demonstrative Pronouns
points out a specific person, place, thing, or idea, appears at beginning of a sentence, its antecedent appearing later in same sentence or the pronoun is placed after its antecedent
Interrogative Pronouns
used to begin a question
Indefinite Pronouns
refers to a person, place, thing, or ideathat's not specifically named, can function as adj. or subject of a sentence
