What are the primary functional groups?
What is a polymer?
A polymer is a long molecule consisting of many similar or identical building blocks linked by covalent bonds such as a train consisting of a chain of cars. Chains of subunit modules
What is the molecular structure of glucose?
What is the molecular structure of an amino acid
What function do phospholipids serve?
They are polymers of glyceryl. They are the primary component of membranes because they are both hydrophobic and hydrophilic. They form a bilayer around the cell.
What enables them to perform this function?
A phospholipid Bilayer. Phospholipid spontaneously form stable bilayers, with their polar head groups exposed to water and the hydrophobic tails buried in the interior of the membrane. Because their fatty acid tails are poorly soluble in water, phospholipids spontaneously for bilayers in Aqua solutions, with hydrophobic tails buried in the interior of the membrane in the puller had groups expose on both sides of water.
What are sterols? Examples?
Sterile's are lipids that consist of carbon rings. They are importance as another component of membranes in-service hormones (testerone, estrogen). They come from cholesterol.
What are nucleate acid's? Examples?
A nucleic acid consists of sugar, phosphate, and nitrogen a space. There will be a chain of them. Give us DNA and RNA. Cytosine, guanine, thymine, uracil, adenine.
