minuend
A number that another number is subtracted from. 9-3=6 (9)
plus
The symbol for addition. "+"
minus
The symbol for subtraction. "-"
subtrahend
A number that is subtracted from another number. 9-3= 6 (3)
inverse
The opposite. Inverse of "+" is "-."
addends
Numbers added together to give a sum. 3+6=9 3, (6 )
sum
The answer when adding two or more addends. 3 + 6 = 9 (9)
Associative Property of Addition
Law stating when we group three or more numbers in different ways the sum is not affected. (5+6) +3 = 5 + (6 + 3)
Commutative Property of Addition
Law stating that adding numbers in any order does not affect the sum. 3+6=6+3
additive identify
Law stating that adding zero to any number does not affect the sum. 7+0=7
subtraction
The operation of subtracting two numbers to result in a difference. 9-6=3
