Thoracic cavity
a space enclosed by the ribs, sternum and vertebral column. It contains 3 small cavities: the pericardial and 2 pleural cavities.
Pericardial cavity
surrounds the heart

each pleural cavity contains the lung
Mediastinum
a central area within the thoracic cavity, extends from the neck to the diaphragm, from the sternum to the vertebral column. It contains these organs: the heart, thymus gland, esophagus, trachea, blood vessels and bronchi.
Diaphragm
separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominopelvic cavity
Abdominopelvic cavity
consists of two continuous cavities: abdominal and pelvic
Abdominal cavity
contains stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, small intestines, kidneys, appendix, part of large intestine. This cavity is devided into 2 smaller cavities: peritoneal cavity and retroperitoneal cavity.
Retroperitoneal cavity
contains pancreas, kidneys, adrenal glands, portions of large intestine, small intestine, aorta, and inferior vena cava.
Pelvic cavity
contains part of large intestine, rectum, urinary bladder, female reproductive organs( ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina) and male reproductive organs(prostate and part of ductus deferens. Testes and penis are not located in the pelvic cavity, but inferior to it.
Viscera
organs inside of thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities
