Phonemic Awareness
The understanding that spoken words are composed of sounds.
In a syllable, the ending sound, usually a vowel and a consonant.
Predictable Book
Story books that develop a repeating, or predictable pattern.
Picture Book
A book in which illustrations and text tell a story that would be incomplete without the pictures.
Word Bank
Children's collections of written words they have encountered.
Phonemic Segmentation
The ability to recognize separate sounds in a word.
In a syllable, the beginning sound, usually an initial consonant.
Wordless Storybook
A book in which the illustrations alone tell a story.
