First woman to speak out against Puritans. She was expelled and joined Roger Williams and formed Rhode Island Colony.
King Philip (Metacomet)
Leader of Wampanoag tribe in New England. He led an attack on English settlers who were moving onto tribal lands. Led to King Philip's war. Many tribes were wiped out and Metacomet was killed.
He governed the New Netherland colony for the Dutch (today New Jersey and Delaware). He gave land to first community of freed Africans. He later surrendered his land to the English.
A religious group that believed all people were equal. they refused to fight in wars or swear loyalty to kings or countries. They left England to find refuge and a safe place to worship and live. They settled in New Jersey
An English Quaker who was made owner of what is now Pennsylvania. He set up the Frame of Government of Pennsylvania, which gave the citizens freedoms. He wanted all people to be treated with fairness.
