An outcome goal judges the performance of the individual against others and the end result
Performance Goal
A performance goal judges the performance of an athlete against his or her own standards, rather than a comparison with competitors
SMARTER
Specific, Measurable, Accepted, Realistic, Time Phased, Exciting, Recorded
Specific
The goal must be related to the performer and include precise aims
Measurable
The goal must be able to be assessed and recorded to allow the performer to see his or her progress
Accepted
The goal must be agreed between the performer and the coach
Realistic
Any goal must be within the performers capabilities
Time Phased
Each goal must have a fixed deadline for evaluation
Exciting
The goal must be viewed as a motivating challenge to gain intrinsic satisfaction
Recorded
All goals must be recorded for evaluation
Long term goal
a target set for the distant future
Medium term goal
a target set for the medium term
Short term goal
a target set for the immediate future
