The Peasants Revolt
Broke out in 1524-1525. Luther addressed the plight of the poor and denounced the greed of the over lords and wanted the poor taken care of better. 300,000 peasants in the German countryside wanted to level out the political tensions and they revolted by attacking their Lords. The German Lords responded and attacked them. Luther had to pick a side and he chose the side of the Lords. He agreed with the leveling of the church structure but wasn't ready to see the political hierarchy leveled. The Lords killed 100,000 peasants.

How did the church react to Galileo's teachings?

: He was interested in trying to explain the motion of the stars. He wanted to figure out what happened when the Earth was circling. His theory was based on the pathogreaum shapes. He wanted to explain how the planets moved in this way even though they didn't. He said that you had the sun in the center and that the planets moved in ellipses and when they get closer to the sun they speed up and when they are further away, they slow down.
• Middle class background and had a strong interest in writing. His writings were satirical of people in power. He wrote about things that underpinned the way society worked. He ended up in prison because of his critiques and was released. He wrote another group of letters and was deported to England. England was a much more free society.

: (July 1794): Period after the Reign of Terror. A relaxing of the tensions. Causes: Robespierre gets so out of hand that the other members of the Committee of Public Safety think that they is going to execute them too so they execute him.
