Visual perception principles?
Are rules that we applied to visual information to assist our organisation and interpretation of the information in consistent and meaningful ways.
Gestalt literal translation?
Form or shape
A whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Helps us construct a meaningful whole from an assortment of parts or elements
The tendency to perceive a part of the visual stimulus as being more relevant (the figure) and standing out against the less relevant surrounding (ground). Eg. R u ok poster
The line of separation between figure and ground.
Part of visual field that has relevance and meaning. Stands out. Clearly differentiated. Appears closer and brighter than ground.
Less relevant surroundings.
The tendency to close up, fill in or ignore gaps in visual stimuli and perceive objects to be a meaningful whole. Eg. Panda
The tendency to perceive parts of visual stimuli which are alike as belonging together. E.g.. Stimuli similar in size, shape, colour, texture or form. E.g. uniform.
The tendency to perceive parts of visual stimuli that are positioned close together as belonging to a group.
