We've been closely following the news coming out of Texas after Hurricane Harvey, and are now tracking the progress of Hurricane Irma, a category 5 hurricane that has already made its way through the Caribbean and is now headed for Florida. If you don't live in the South or Southeast of the U.S. or another Hurricane prone area, you might not be familiar with what makes these storms so powerful — and gives them so much potential to cause damage. Learn more about the basics of tropical storms and hurricanes and dig in further with this image-filled hurricane study set (complete with a diagram).
If you haven't already, please consider donating to the DonorsChoose.org Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund, which helps teachers get their classrooms back on track after the flooding and destruction caused by the August hurricane. You can find out more information about why we think it's important to contribute here.
