No matter who you voted for, it's been an intense week that marks the end to a crazy two years of campaigning. Donald Trump is now the president-elect of the United States, and the anxiety and excitement around the election were being (and continue to be) felt by a lot of people. It's difficult not to get wrapped up in the polling, news reports, scandals, and everything else that came to represent the 2016 presidential race.

If you've been feeling anxious or stressed about the election, practicing mindfulness and meditation might help. For newcomers to mindfulness, it's pretty simple: mindfulness is all about staying in the present and being aware of what's happening to you right now — not becoming wrapped up in the future, or what already happened. You can get a great overview of what mindfulness and meditation are all about here. The benefits of practicing mindfulness include gaining a sense of empowerment and personal control, and building a feeling of hope.

With the 2016 election behind us, let's focus on being in the present, practicing mindfulness, and working for a better future together.
