Please join us in welcoming Miguel Flores to Quizlet!
Miguel grew up in Maryland and went to Eleanor Roosevelt High School before attending MIT. He graduated with a degree in computer science, and pre-Quizlet was working for Amazon in Southern California. He loves traveling, trying new foods and restaurants, and is always down for an adventure.
Miguel is part of the Platform Team here, which means he works on making Quizlet safer and faster for all users. His work also enables our developer team, making their jobs easier and allowing them to move faster to build great products for Quizlet teachers and students. Miguel is already working on some major projects and we're super excited to have him here in SF with us! We asked him our new-hire questions, so you can learn more about him:
Quizlet: Who was your most memorable teacher and why?
Miguel: Mrs. Twu, my high school Physics teacher. She was hands-down a BOSS at teaching probably my hardest class in high school. Not only was she a great teacher, she was the nicest person, always willing to help and break problems down so that they became easy to understand.
Q: If you could learn to do anything, what would you learn?
M: Definitely BASE Jumping. I've never done it but have always been in awe watching videos of BASE jumpers. I've always been interested in doing high adrenaline hobbies, but without friends willing to do the same. After all, what's a life without adventure?
Q: Who's taught you the most?
M: While I may not acknowledge it as much as I should, it would definitely be my mother. I came from a family where hard work and other values became ingrained in me, but none more than my mother's persistence for me to be a better person.
Q: Why did you decide to work at Quizlet?
M: I decided to work at Quizlet because a good friend from college is an engineer here and, as I met more of the team, I was very impressed with the people on it - Quizlet seemed like a great environment that would help me grow. Lastly, the education space has always been an area that I have been interested in, particularly in the context of helping bringing people out of socio-economic disadvantages. Working at Quizlet combines a career I enjoy doing with an area in which I get personal fulfillment.
