I’m very happy to welcome Matthew Glotzbach as our new CEO.
Matt is joining us at a time of heavy investment in our product, our team, and our business. Our recent launch of Quizlet Live, our first classroom game, has gotten an overwhelmingly positive response. We raised money six months ago from terrific investors. We had our biggest month ever with 20 million active users in April. We’ve grown our team from 15 people at the beginning of last year to 40 people now. It’s safe to say that Quizlet has been on a roll lately!
Matt is coming to us with over 20 years of software industry experience, the last 12 of which were at Google. He was on the founding team of Google Apps, which tied together Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and others. He was most recently VP Product Management at YouTube, where he has run their international, creator, and subscription teams.
Matt’s experience is a perfect fit for where we’re headed. Coming from YouTube, he knows the power of user-generated content platforms. He believes, like I do, that users come first and everything else follows. He and I share a vision for how to grow Quizlet into a platform that everyone on the planet can use to learn.
Matt has a deep passion for education. His mom was a pre-K and kindergarten teacher. Early on at Google, he saw the power of technology to positively impact education, having responsibility for launching Google Apps for Education. His two kids are Quizlet users and I’m sure we’ll be getting lots of input from them in the coming years.
What does this mean for Quizlet users? It means we’re investing in what has made Quizlet successful — working on new features for creating and sharing content, and launching new activities that enable deep learning experiences.
In the past few months, Matt and I have developed a very strong bond, and I couldn’t imagine a better partner as we grow Quizlet into a world-changing company. He’s posted some of his own thoughts here.
Welcome to the team, Matt!
